Rally Cap
AGE | 4 – 7 |
REGISTRATION FEE | $50 – includes an hat and a jersey |
PRACTICE DATES | Wednesdays @ 6:00 – 7:00 PM |
Baseball Canada launched its Rally Cap Program in 2006 in an attempt to improve players’ skills and keep children between four and seven coming back to the ballpark.
A modified version of baseball, Rally Cap features three teams of six players (+/-) competing at the same diamond for 60 minutes. Two of the teams play baseball in the infield while the third team practices skills in the outfield. After 20 minutes the teams rotate, and at the end of the night each team has played two 20-minute mini-games and had one practice. Coaches are supplied with skills and drills manuals. Players are given jerseys (which they keep) and require a glove and good runners. Strong parent involvement is encouraged (YOU can DO IT!).
All activities take place at the Kleefeld Park. It is a house league style, as they do not play against other towns. The players are introduced to baseball, learn the basics of throwing and hitting, and play games amongst their group with an emphasis on sportsmanship and self esteem. Tim Horton’s sponsors this level in Manitoba and provides complimentary items for the players. If the weather does not cooperate the games may be rescheduled.
9U (aka Grand Slam)
AGE | 7-9 |
REGISTRATION FEE | $80 – includes a Kleefeld hat & jersey |
PRACTICE DATES | Mondays @ 6:00 – 7:00 PM |
GAME DATES | Wednesdays @ 6:45 – 7:45 PM |
If players have played 2 years in Rally Cap they may register at the 9U level as a 7 year old.
In both Rally Cap and 9U programs the focus is on introducing and learning the game of baseball in a non-competitive environment. The Grand Slam league introduces batting using adult pitchers, providing more consistent strikes, and plenty of fast paced action as more balls are put into play. All players bat each inning.
Grand Slam is a baseball level similar to Rally Cap but adds the opportunity to play against other teams. Grand Slam aged players will practice using the Rally Cap format and participate in games once a week against other communities. (6 person teams)
Teams follow a schedule and the season ends in late June with a fun tournament called the Carillon Grand Slam Jamboree.
GAMES: Are approximately 60 minutes long. Coaches ask that players arrive 15 minutes early for a pre-game warm-up.
11U (aka Mosquito)
AGE | 10 – 11 |
REGISTRATION FEE | $90 |
PRACTICE DATES | Thursdays @ 7:00 – 8:00 PM |
GAME DATES | Mondays @ 6:45 – 8:45 PM |
At 11U, umpires are introduced and players begin to learn the art of pitching (pitch count rule is enforced). If four balls are thrown the coach will ‘soft pitch’ to the batter to encourage hitting and putting the ball into play. Players are encouraged to learn all positions and really get a feel for the game.
The teams play a schedule against other communities that includes 1 game a week. Practices will start in mid-April (weather permitting) and the season will finish toward the end of June.
GAMES: Are approximately 2 hours long, averaging 2-4 innings per game. Coaches ask that players arrive 15 minutes early for a pre-game warm-up.
